Understanding Extreme Fitness And How It Can Work For You

By James Spann

Working out is crucial because it's a part of life and the body absolutely needs it. Not too long ago where work involved manual labor, an exercise routine actually fit right into one's work. This isn't so today, with the majority of the people in the workforce seated for a good part of their day. As such, they have to implement some kind of an exercise regime into their lives, and perhaps the best one of all is extreme fitness.

This concept is sweeping the nation because the challenging workouts have been found to provide the most benefits. With them, people can maintain their weight, reach their weight-loss goals, and of course, get fit and maintain that level of fitness throughout life. The important thing however, is to progress at a proper pace. Those who jump right into extreme workouts may actually cause themselves more harm than good, injuring their muscles, or even causing other more serious injuries to themselves.

CrossFit, is one fine example of building strength, cardio endurance and flexibility. It involves weight lifting, aerobic exercise, and gymnastics, among other high intensity varied functions. This program was developed in the United States and spreading like wildfire, with over 7000 affiliated gyms.

Another excellent example is the Tabata protocol. This high-intensity interval training lasts a total of four minutes. The individual works out intensively for 20 seconds and then takes a 10 second rest. Dr. Tabata of Japan, and a team of researchers developed the program and noted benefits.

Subjects were tested for a few weeks, and the results were astounding. In fact, his subjects increased and anaerobic capacity by 28 percent, and 14 percent in their oxygen consumption. The outcome is simply proves that this is even better than one hour of endurance exercise.

In many cases, the benefits and harmful effects of extreme workouts have been studied. They've been proven over and again, with the only precaution that those who are not at that level be very careful. One must work his way up to this level before taking part in the challenging, intense workouts.

Physical exercise is an important part of one's well-being. Simply put, it keeps people healthy. It builds stronger immune systems and stronger musculoskeletal bodies that can help them be more independent throughout their lives and fight off diseases. A sedentary lifestyle and a poor diet are responsible for the ever increasing chronic diseases today, which can be improved with some lifestyle changes.
